Here is Wild Cards. The first painting of the easel in my
new studio. Charleen, the young woman who posed for me is a
creative person herself. She custom designs one-of-a-kind
women's clothes in a unique way. Using swatches of fabric
in a variety of colors, patterns and even text, she begins
by tossing pieces on the floor. Moving them around like
puzzle pieces, she begins to see shapes and movements that
please her. Gathering them up, she begins to sew. The
results are dynamic combinations of shape, color, texture
and theme. Oh yes, and on the side she's a stilt
walker.
That's right, a stilt walker, hiring her skills out for
parties, parades and special events. In Wild Cars she is
wearing one of her stilt walking outfits. This outfit and
her dreadlocks were the inspiration for this painting. They
made brought to mind court jesters and harlequins. It was a
short leap from there to jokers. Also, she's a bit of a
wild card too.
Coming soon, a 2013 wrap up
For my subscribers in the more northern climes, stay warm.
It hasn't exactly picnic weather here in CT either. For the
more southerly inclined, fell free to gloat.
Happy New Year to all.
